It was considered a health hazard and the filling of the swamp was started in 1857. This project, which took almost thirty years to complete, was the start of a new popular district: Back Bay.

Board Description
Boston, USA
Boston is often called the cradle of American History. The city, founded in 1630 is one of America's oldest. It boast a large number of historical landmarks and monuments. The 20th century added a series of skyscrapers to the skyline of church spires.

Many visitors are surprised by the relaxed atmosphere of this cosmopolitan city. Several historic districts including the romantic Beacon Hill and luxurious Back Bay would fit nicely in any European city. The city's skyscrapers in the financial district have less architectural value but add a nice contrast to Boston's older districts.
