"There is no cure to pain of the soul," Astrid said, her words soft and cynical in a way that would be deemed uncharacteristic in someone like her. The Astrid, though, the words seemed completely true; what would cure her trampled soul? Still holding tight to Cloud's hand (she barely realized she was doing so), Astrid's shaking breaths slowed ever so slightly and the heat of her skin began to fade in the cool evening air.
"You want to know where the light came from," she stated, her voice a bit stronger. "Faerie blood." The words were audible this time, she was sure, though she kept her voice soft so the words were only for Cloud. But why did she tell him? Fear? No, not fear... hope, perhaps, seemed why.
If this hunter could refrain from killing her for so long then, perhaps, there was still hope. Suddenly, though, Astrid wished she could cure the pain this other person was feeling. For so long, her life had been escaping her own pain, but his was literally a poison in his body, trying to take over; was that a pain to be healed? She didn't know, but she desired to help.
Loosening her grip on his hand, Astrid held his fingers more gently to keep her hand from shaking. She looked at the intertwined fingers and was surprised at how easy it was to stay there, even after the fright. I have never forgiven before... Astrid thought to herself. Is this what it is like? How does one vocalize it? She was confused... but unwilling to leave as well.

In a way, the hunter's spirits dropped moreso upon hearing her speak those words. "It doesn't mean I should stop trying," he muttered in response, his voice strong and proud even when spoken so quietly. And he would never stop. But even then, the man saught his revenge. On his last drawn breath of humanity, he would take his blade to the throat of the demon mistress. And then on his last breath, would he feel cured.
"Faerie blood," he repeated softly, inhaling deeply as he holstered his sword once more. "Yet I have met Fae-folk before, and never felt drawn to touch -- say, to witness their light," he frowned slightly, running his free hand through his hair. True, he had captured the majority bwithout daring to look into their eyes, or to go anywhere near them without being armed - but he could say it wih honesty.
Swinging their hands slightly, Cloud smiled, "I guess if you want space - I'll leave you to it. I promised not to hurt you, my Lady." And still, he felt at loss as soon as he slid his fingers from hers - realising how odd it would look for one to snatch up her hand again. "I'll take it as you forgave me, shall I?" he smirked gently, uplifting the corners of his lips as he winked cheerfully at her.

He wouldn't stop trying, so why should she? Astrid's pain, though deeply rooted in hundreds of years of pain, was lesser than Clouds because hers did not result in death. She agreed that he shouldn't stop trying, but was again assaulted with the feeling of uncertainty and she kept her mouth shut, not sure what to say. "Perhaps you were drawn to me because I am not fully Fae," Astrid offered instead, trying to think about something else.
Space... did she want space? Or did she wish for someone to comfort her for the first time since the death of her adoptive mother, the late Lady Cersei? Astrid did not know, nor did she think she was brave enough to find out. As Cloud let go of her hand, Astrid felt the breeze chill the places where he had warmed them; it was a loss deeper than she thought it could be. "You want forgiveness? Sir, you ask for much," Astrid replied to his question, her eyes showing that she wished to say more, but she truly didn't know how to forgive.
There was some sort of connection she felt with this hurting soul. It was nearly tangible, making the Shape Shifter wonder if he, too, felt it; or if it was just Astrid's imagination, desperate for someone to help her. "Thank you... for not hurting me." Astrid could get out that much-- her closest thing to a word of forgiveness-- and she tried to smile, but it was a weak attempt. Why was she so shaken by all of this?

"Perhaps," he hesitated as his gaze trailed towards that shadowed corner once more, "Then you are such a pretty thing anyway." Still, inside his mind worked like a clock - spinning clogs and furiously trying to figure a way from the pain he felt within.
The pain itching at the back of his mind and throbing in his heart.
Slipping his one glove back over his tainted palm. Cloud chuckled quietly - nodding at her words. "I do, I'm afraid... but you do allow a fool as I to wonder why you act as you do. I simply ask that you think me as a fool who you may speak to when you feel, and not be worried that my sword will cut you physically nor mentally," he sighed, watching her closely through poisoned irises.
Waving off her words, the hunter shook his head gently, "Don't be. I'd find myself in more pain for hurting you. After all, you made such a beautiful hawk," he teased lightly, wondering if he could help this girl from her shell. This shape shifter.

Pretty? Astrid thought to herself in shock. Pretty... the word had not been used to describe her by anyone but Lady Cersei and the servants. She hadn't allowed anyone else to use such a word, for Astrid struggled to see her own beauty, even though she knew Lady Cersei would never have lied to her. But from a man?
"I shall not think of you as a fool," Astrid replied, glad he didn't ask for forgiveness again, in those words; it was easier for her to tip-toe around the word and use different terms. "I believe your sword will not cut me." Her eyes studied his closely and she could almost swear she could see the poison that lay there, but she was sure it was just her own mind spinning as she tried to process the things that were unfolding before her.
As Cloud commented on her hawk form, Astrid felt an embarrassed blush rise on her cheeks. It was odd to hear the words, though she enjoyed her hawk form and liked to hear that it was thought to be beautiful... even if it was just in jest. "I--I... uh... well, I am... yes, hawks are beautiful, aren't they?" What a jumbled mess of thoughts pouring out all at once! Astrid had so many ways she could have worded it from, 'I think so, too,' to, 'I am happy you think so.' She went with the safe route, though, and tried again to forget the slight brush of Cloud's lips on hers.

Smiling gratefully, the Hunter re-adjusted the dark glasses above the bridge of his nose as she spoke. "Thank you," he replied quietly, bowing low to the Shapeshifter with a coy appreal. Well, it never hurt to be a gentleman, did it? Even if you had originally planned on murdering the pretty woman before you.
How he would explain this to his superiors, he did not know. Surely, his rank would be stripped and his honor would be tarnished. Hell, he would probably be thrown out of the sentry completely. Oh, the shame would be overwheleming to have the subordinates, he spent so many hours treaching, laugh and kick soot into his face.
No he was not going to mention this little encounter to anyone.
Thumbing his cell lightly between his fingers, Cloud glanced up to see the blush deep rose on her cheeks. And he couldn't help but smirk softly in admiration. He was tempted not to leave, tempted to stay and find out more about this strange creauture and her light. But, he could say almost for sure that she wouldn't have a number he could call her on. Did Shapeshifters carry cell-phones?
"Indeed, but then... I have only met one such beautiful hawk," he raised a thin eyebrow with a grin.

Astrid noticed Cloud playing with his phone while she listened to his words, not liking his glasses because she couldn't see his eyes. Eyes were a window to the person beneath the skin, and when they were blocked, a part of the person seemed to be as well. Besides, the dark shades made Cloud look more threatening than she found him to be, so she was more comfortable watching his hands rather than his face.
"You have only met one hawk," she stated. "But you have met other Shape Shifters?" She wasn't sure why she had asked, but Astrid was sure that he probably acted the same towards other women. It was a front-- it had to be-- and underneath, she had to tell herself that Cloud was just like any other man.
Otherwise, her confusion was even more painful. "And the shape of a king cobra, not beautiful at all. I suppose I balance myself out with those two..." Astrid didn't mention her third form of a falcon, for two forms was a lot and she didn't want to further risk her death by listing a third form. Why was she so conflicted?

"Indeed, I have. Which is why I am still surprised I didn't catch on before to what you were - what you are. And yet, I was drawn to the call of a hawk with suspiscion the moment I saw you," he noted allowed. It was best to answer truefully he supposed. Just incase something came back to bite him in the ass. "I have met no present Shape Shifters, besides yourself," he admitted quietly, hanging his head in shame at his past doings.
And once a job had been done, he truely did feel ashamed of his actions. But to Cloud, it was life. You were born, you lived for a while and then you died. In death you would find a new life and the cycle would continue again. At times, he felt almost robotic with his actions, as though it was programmed into his system and he knew no other way of living. He was on this earth to protect humanity, and he was determined to follow out his dreams.
Smirking softly at her words, he rose a thin eyebrow out of curiousity. "Perhaps not. But startling, binding and powerful, yes," he smiled, slipping his phone back into his pants and bowing his head once more. "Maybe it was that balance that made you so beautiful," the hunter whispered, taking a few steps back before turning to walk back the way he had came. Back towards that intriguing shadow.
"I'll see you around, my Lady Cersei," he grinned, glancing back at her over his shoulder.
